If you have a dental cavity that needs treatment, we can provide you with different types of dental fillings at Metropolitan Dental Associates PC. Our dentists, Dr. Glenn Goodbinder and Dr. Steven Groman, offered two different types of Civic Center dental fillings, and will let you know which type will work best for you and your particular situation.
Our dentist will generally make a recommendation of which type of Civic Center dental fillings material to use based on the size and location of the cavity. If the cavity occurs in a front tooth, or in an area under tooth that shows when you speak or smile, it may be recommended that you get a tooth-colored composite filling. This type of filling cannot be seen once it is installed in the tooth and, will not have any type of effect on your smile - other than keeping it beautiful. Although these fillings are aesthetically pleasing, they may not be as strong as the traditional silver amalgam fillings. For this reason, our dentists will usually recommend a silver amalgam filling is used when the cavity is in the flat portion of a back molar, where it will be exposed to vigorous chewing forces. When a tooth-colored composite filling is used, the filling will actually be bonded to the tooth. This will strengthen the tooth. Additionally, less tooth enamel generally needs to be removed while the tooth is being filled using a tooth-colored composite filling. However, silver amalgam fillings do tend to last longer, in general. For this reason, different fillings will work better in different places; our dentists will be able to advise you on the best way to go. Since tooth-colored fillings take longer to apply, they may be more expensive for you to get. You may want to check with your dental insurance company before treatment begins.
